Aloha! Here are unedited photos made from about noon thru 1830 hours today, the 26th. The base of the flagstaff is coming along nicely. Melody and her son Damien continue adding the finishing touches in readiness for the big day on the 14th. Melody shared with this photographer (Regis) how honored she felt to be able to contribute her energies to the creation of this wondrous remembrance piece.
Mrs Martha J. Robbins of Canfield, Ohio is a former U.S. Marine
(Mechanic) who served from 1945 to 1947. Her sister, also a Marine, served
in San Francisco. Her tour coach driver, Mr. Oliver "Bud" Andress,
knowing a little of Martha's history, thought it most appropriate that she
be photographed beside the new flagstaff. The PHVC crew readily agreed, hence
the included images. Martha, truly, your presence is a blessing. You, too,
Bud! Mahalo! Oh, by the way, Ben Franklin showed up, too!
I kid you not! We're expecting John Wayne any day now... He was in a beer
commercial recently, so he's still around... ;-)
At approximately 1730 hours, an intimate flag raising (of the 3 flags) ceremony was held. Later, an extraordinary meal was served by Francois Provenza (the European gent pictured herein holding Regis's lunch). Patrick Brent commented that it was the best meal he'd had at the PHVC. The photographer, who in this instance (due to gluttony) wishes to remain anonymous, concurs whole heartedly... ;-)
Note: These images are on the site temporarily. We will select 29 out of the total that best tell the tale of the unfolding of this grand vision and have them appear on this page (minus the photographers feeble attempts at humor). Patrick concurs...
